Audiofile Review: CONQUER THE KINGDOM

Lauren Fortgang returns to narrate the final work in the Gargoyle Queen trilogy. Crown Princess Gemma Ripley has been hunting for Milo, an enemy who has sworn to destroy her kingdom. She sees an opportunity to lure him out of hiding through a gladiatorial tournament to be held in her city. Adding complexity to the story is a complication: Gemma and Milo's brother have fallen in love. Fortgang delivers a well-developed persona for Gemma, who tells the story. A broad cast of characters gives Fortgang an opportunity to use tone and pitch to differentiate voices. In contrast to the gruff voice of Gemma's gargoyle, Fortgang endows a baby strix with charming childlike vocalizations.
